So, it is widely believed that anyone who takes a holy bath in the Yamuna river not only receives the blessings of goddesses Yamuna as well as the goddess Saranyu as well as Surya Dev but also liberates himself from the fear of death with Yama's blessings.
Another local legend claims that Asit Muni, a resident of Yamunotri, was fond of bathing on each of the rivers, the Yamuna and the Ganga Rivers, daily. Over time, he could not get into the River Ganga because of the age-related issue. With the blessings and consent of God, the Ganga emerged. Ganga appeared near Yamuna.
Unknown Facts About Yamunotri
1. Yamunotri's actual source is a frozen lake and glacier (Champasar Glacier), located at 4,421m above sea level on Kalind Mountain. It is not accessible due to its difficult trek. The renowned Yamunotri temple is located at the foothill, where the devotees pay tribute to the goddess Yamunotri.
2 There are two water springs near Temple Yamunotri: Surya Kund and Gauri Kund. Surya Kund is home to hot boiling water. Surprisingly, you can cook rice and potatoes by dipping them in muslin cloth. They then offer the water to the shrine and receive it as prasad. On the other hand, Gauri Kund has tepid water that is suitable for bathing.
3. River Yamuna, the consort of Lord Shri Krishna. Yamuna's home is in Gokula. Here, the river first circled Shri Krishna before coming down to Earth in accordance with her Lord's order.
4 Sage Asit Muni lived in a hermitage close to the Yamuna banks. He bathed in both the Ganges as well as the Yamuna every day throughout his entire life. In his old age, he could not travel to Gangotri, so a stream of Ganges appeared on the opposite side of Yamunotri.
5 Maharaja Pratap Shah, Tehri Garhwal, built the temple of the Yamuna on the left bank. Black marble is used to make the deity. Like the Ganges, the Yamuna has been elevated to the position of a divine mother by the Hindus. She is credited with nurturing and developing the Indian civilization.
About Yamunotri Temple
Yamunotri Temple is home to a shrine dedicated to the Yamuna, located on the left bank. Maharaja Pratap Shah Tehri Garhwal built it. Natural calamities like earthquakes severely damaged a significant portion of the temple. Maharani Guleria Devi, Jaipur's 19 century AD, repaired and renovated the temple.
The temple's architecture is purely Nagar. Granite stones are used to build the temple. The top features a cone-shaped pale yellow minaret with bright vermillion borders. A black marble deity representing the divine mother is depicted. The interior temple chambers include the Garbha Griha, or Sanctum Sanctorium, where the mother idol is located. Also, the Mandap, or the assembly hall, where pilgrims gather to worship.
Mangala Aarti can be performed in the morning and Shayan Aarti at night. The devotees can also purchase a puja kit from nearby shops to offer to the deity. Pilgrims offer coconut, sugar, incense sticks, and other items associated with 'Saubhagya,' which is good luck, especially for Hindu married women.
All devotees are welcome at the temple, which opens at 6 a.m. to close at 8 p.m.

Surya Kund
Surya Kund, a natural hot spring near Yamunotri's holy shrine, is the best place to visit. It is a popular attraction in Yamunotri. This spring has a temperature of around 1900 degrees F. It is possible to heat food in a matter of minutes. This thermal spring water is used to make the main temple's prasad. Surya Kund's name is after the river Yamuna. This prasad is made from potatoes or mixed rice with salt and is tied to a piece of muslin cloth. It is then boiled in the spring before being offered to the temple god.
Divya Shila
Located close to Surya Kund and Yamunotri, Divya Shila (a sacred stone pillar) is known as a slab of divine light. According to the belief, you must pay homage to Divya Shila before entering the main shrine. This rock pillar is believed to be the idol of the deity. Devotees should bow down at this place before entering the main shrine.
Saptarishi Kund
Saptarishi Kund is another natural wonder that Yamunotri considers one of the top places to see. This natural lake is home to the River Yamuna. It has a pebbly bank and grayish-blue water. This lake is popular with adventurers as the Kund trail is not for everyone. The exotic Brahma Kamal, a rare flora variety, is also a highlight of this beautiful lake. The Saptrishi Lake provides beautiful views of nature.
